The rising cost of youth sports is something parents struggle with every day. Families forgo vacations, college funding, and even take on second jobs in order to make sure their children have the opportunities afforded by athletics.
Unfortunately, some families are opting down or opting out of sports completely due to the rising cost to play. But sports matter. Sports teaches kids commitment, patience, strength, and endurance, among other things.
Helping keep kids in the game with an easier way to fund their participation is our goal at FlipGive. And, this summer, we are delighted to partner with Dikembe Mutombo, an all-star athlete who believes in the same.
Dikembe Mutombo is an 18-year NBA veteran, an 8-TIME NBA All-Star, and a 4-time NBA Defensive player of the year. He has seen firsthand what athletics can do for kids, and it's not just because he went pro. He believes that what is learned through sports is so much more than just athletic ability, and we couldn't agree more.
"You never know when your time will come" says Dikembe. "You never know the day when you'll be picked up off the bench for the opportunity of a lifetime. That is what I love about sports, the lessons that you can take from them and apply them to life. In anything, in anything you want to do, there is always value in patience."
Dikembe has partnered with the team here at FlipGive to help communities and to provide a feasible solution for the rising cost of youth sports.
"Too often, I see talented athletes unable to move forward without proper funding, and FlipGive is an engine that gives families the support they need. Sports provides the tools that children take out into the world and for this reason, it is something that is very important to me. I'm thrilled to be a part of FlipGive because together we can help more kids remain active and engaged in sports," says Dikembe.
To kick off our partnership, we invite our members to participate in the Dikembe challenge. Every shop for your team from June 22-30, enters you to win a Daily $55 prize!
"We hope that together with Dikembe, we can inspire a change in the decline of youth sports participation," said Mark Bachman, CEO of FlipGive. "I know I'm constantly surprised at just how much it costs to keep my own kids in sports, and that number keeps going up every year. At FlipGive, our goal is always to keep kids in the game, and with Dikembe, we hope that we can inspire even more kids to stick with it."
The Dikembe challenge runs from June 22-30th. Click here to learn more and enter to win!
